Abstract

The religious scholars play a massive role in spreading knowledge and shaping the minds of the Muslim community. Their influence extends not only to religious thinking but also to social and political aspects, especially in this modern time. Therefore, this article will dive into the ideas on the aspect of theology and the influence of ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Siddiq al-Ghumari, a prominent hadith scholar from Morocco who played a significant role in the world of Islamic scholarship in the 20th century. This study employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach, drawing on library sources, analysis of works, and literary studies. The study found that al-Ghumari emphasized the principle of tanzih in creed, supported the method of ta'wil as one of the approaches to tanzih, and rejected the notions of tajsim and tashbih in relation to Allah's attributes. He also had his own reasoning (ijtihad) on secondary issues of creed and critiqued the different views using evidence from the Quran and al-Sunnah. The study findings also reveal that he was a prolific, proactive, and encyclopedic figure. His vast influence through his many writings and successors had resulted in a great and valuable impact on the development of contemporary Islamic thought, solidifying his status as a remarkable academic figure.
